Philadelphia

Yesterday we drove from
NYC to Philadelphia. However, our navigation system brought us straight through Manhattan from Williamsburg (which is on the east side of the river, not on Manhattan) where we picked up the van. We wanted to avoid driving in Manhattan but since it was the shortest route the GPS sent us there. It took us about an hour to get out of New York. Since we forgot to set the GPS so it avoids Tull fees we had to pay three times during our drive. We have now changed the setting so we will avoid them in the future.

When we came to Philly it took us a while to find a good parking space, although there was a great number of parking spaces, we just took our time to find a good one. All parked up and we were ready to go out and explore the first capital of the USA, former home of Benjamin Franklin and George Washington, and where both the declaration of independence and the constitution of USA were first adopted. The main street felt like a breath of fresh air compared to New York. The walkways were wide and there were no crowds to be seen. We walked all the way to the Philadelphia museum of art where the iconic scene with Sylvester Stallone running up the stairs was filmed. There is also a Rocky statue.

Since we didn't want to get too late to the camp site where we were staying for the night we started to head back to our car after a couple of hours. Before we drove off we just had to get a famous Philly steak and cheese sandwich so we found a place that made them. Don't let the looks of these bad boys fool you cause they taste a lot better than they look. It actually reminded me of reindeer meat.

After our meal we drove to the camping site were we parked up for the night. Today we have spent the day in the same camping ground since we wanted to relax from all the walking and polluted and stressful cities. It is very nice here, however very hot and we couldn't find the electric hookup on the van last night so we had to sleep without air conditioner. However, we found it today (it is a small electric output behind the fridge and we need about three different extension leads in order to hook it up to the power supply outside, and one of the extension leads are broken) along with a small fan that will act as our savior for the rest of the trip.
