Washington DC (day 11)

Neither of us slept very well Monday night because of the heat so we were both looking forward to staying in a hotel for a couple of nights while we will be visiting Washington DC. We hadn't booked a hotel before we went there so after we found a parking space in the city  center we fired up the computer at the closest Starbucks (i don't know what we would do without their free wifi, it has come in handy many times during this trip already). On hotwire.com We found a cheap price with free parking for three nights in a Hilton in an area south of the city called Springfield. This area is mostly vacated by businesses, hotels and shopping malls (trivia: It is also where the 9/11 terrorists managed to get fake I.Ds at the local DMV office). Arriving at the hotel about an hour ago I can say we definitely won this time. It is a really nice hotel. We will be staying here to the 5th of July which means we'll celebrate Independence day in the capital. Very exciting stuff indeed!

Earlier on in the day we arrived in Washington and, compared to Baltimore, there is a lot to see here. We started off by walking around The Mall which is the strip with all the major landmarks like Capitol Hill, the White House, museums, monuments, and memorials. We saw most of the strip except for the museums which we will do today. Among the memorials that we saw was the Lincoln memorial, the Vietnam veterans memorial, Martin Luther King Jr memorial, and World War Two memorial.

Josh decided to get a bright yellow poncho to protect him from the rain. As you can see, it did not help the foreground of some of my photos. More pictures will come!
