Washington, day 13, 4th of July

On 4th of July, America's Independence Day, was celebrated with the Newseum, good food, some beers and fireworks. The Newseum is a museum of journalism and we both found it very interesting. they had Pulitzer prize winning photography, history of news, and journalism work from war and terrorism. They also had parts from one of the planes and the radio mast from the top of the World Trade Center from the 9/11 attacks. It also had great views from the top floor.

Regarding the Independence Day celebrations we were a bit disappointed since there didn't seem to be any drinking. Haha. Lets just say the celebrations would look very different in a European city. We were expecting big parties going on in town but people were really calm and no alcohol was served (to our disappointment), except in pubs and restaurants. I guess it's illegal to drink on the streets but since there was a festival thing going on at the Mall we thought it was a bit strange. Perhaps they wanted it to be family friendly (not that that would have stopped anyone drinking in England). We ate at a really nice Cuban restaurant (probably the only one in the whole of USA) and stayed out until the fireworks were over.
