North Carolina, day 20

On Thursday we drove down to Wilmington and Carolina beach. On the way there we passed several ghost towns with run down houses and buildings that looked like something out of the Wild West. Religion is big here and churches appear very frequently. It is not hard to notice the pristine condition of the churches compared to the houses that you normally find around them. When we stopped at a traffic light the truck on front of us had a bunch of bumper stickers that where anti-religious and some political. We noticed that the back of his car had been driven into since it had a big dent. Probably done by someone who didn't agree with the messages of his stickers.

About halfway to Carolina beach we drove into the worst wall of rain I've ever experienced. It was like someone just turned the tap on. We could see the sky getting darker but by the time we were at the beach it had all cleared up and it was back to hot and sunny as usual.

In the evening we had a nice swim in the campground pool before heading out for dinner at a BBQ restaurant called Jackson's big oak barbecue. The atmosphere was very chilled out and the waiter kept topping up our drinks throughout the meal. The food was great even though it doesn't look that good on the picture.
