After a long
drive up a hill on a narrowing and winding road we finally arrived at one of
the campsites in Yosemite National Park. There had been huge fires here during
the past weeks, and there were still some areas where the fire still wasn’t
under control, so we were happy to find our campsite for the next two nights
was still there. On the way we had seen massive areas that had been affected by
the fire and realized how amazing it was that the firefighters actually had
managed to take control over it. No
houses within the area had been damaged either. There were signs in one of the
little towns thanking the firefighters for their bravery. On the first night we
didn’t have that much time but to have a look at one of the scenic views in the
park. There were lots of people there waiting for the sunset to cast on one of
the mountain walls. Instead of waiting until it was dark we had to head back to
the campsite to make our first “homemade” meal of the trip. We had bought a
bunch of food before heading to the park. The meal wasn’t great but it had to
do for now. The next day we took a short hike to a place called Mirror Lake
only to find it to be, ironically enough, completely dried out. The scenery was
still pretty amazing so we didn’t suffer much. Next we found a great spot by a
lake where we got a great shot of El Capitan, the most iconic mountain in
Yosemite. I don’t know if, again, we had seen too many amazing things before
coming here that I didn’t find it all that impressive, or perhaps it looked
quite a lot like Swedish nature, that I have seen most of my life growing up,
and therefore didn’t move me as much. It was still very beautiful though! The
last night we decided to make a fire and have a BBQ which turned out to be a great
ending to our trip before heading to L.A. to spend our last days.
