The second day was spent by the pool in
the morning and then downtown in the French district. This area was
beautiful and a completely different side of New Orleans than we had
seen the night before. As the name implies it felt like being in a small
French town with pretty buildings and old shops, except they don't speak
French here.

New Orleans day 1 and 2
After a 6 hour drive through Mississippi to New Orleans in Louisiana we checked in at the hotel and got ready for a night out on famous Bourbon street. In the taxi that took us there was a woman in the front passenger seat who, we think, might have had some drug problem. She was really nice and started talking to us about this and that. She suddenly asked if we had a knife or something with us. I laughed and jokingly said that she was scaring us but she just looked at us seriously and asked Josh if he was good at fighting (!). So with that in mind we were dropped off by the lively bars and clubs. Our initial impression of the area was that it was a bit crazy and it seemed like a lot of people go here in big groups just to drink a lot of cheap alcohol. Not a very pleasant place but we sought out a place that had live music and stayed there before moving on to eat some pizza. Bourbon street seems to be a place surrounded by alcohol and sex (every other place on the street was a strip club), basically like a mini-Vegas minus the casinos. And to our disappointment there wasn't any good live music either.
