On our way to Austin we stopped by in Lockhart for some BBQ. This place has been dubbed the BQ capital of Texas, which basically means it's the BBQ capital of the world. The place we went to was called Black's and it sure was good BBQ! The best thing we got to see and experience in Texas was definitely the around 1.5 million bats flying out from under the Congress avenue bridge at dusk. With that said, Austin was definitely a cool city. It was not too big or too small, not too busy and not to quiet, just perfect. It had some cool architecture, eclectic shops, and fun people. We took a short boat tour that took us close to the bridge when it was time for the bat show and our tour guide told us about the city. One thing he told us was that one of the skyscrapers was built by an architect from the Rice university in Houston. This university has an owl as their mascot of their football team and is a rival to the University of Texas in Austin. The people of Austin noticed that the new building
resembled an owl and so wanted it gone, or wanted to add two longhorns to make it more appropriate (as the mascot of UT is a bevo).
The last day was spent in the Soco district which has a university feel to it. There are a tone of coffee shops and other quirky little shops. In the evening we went to a very popular place called the Continental club where they have live music every night. The nights band was very entertaining, however we felt like we were at least 20 years younger than the rest of the audience.
