Memphis day 2

On the second day in Memphis we decided to get up early since there was a lot of museums that wanted to visit during our time here. We managed to visit two museums a day during the full days we were here. So on this day we went to see Sun studios (the one we were looking forward to the most) where many big starts of the 50's and 60's recorded their first songs. Among this crowd we have Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins (check out the Million dollar quartet for an awesome moment of history). We got a tour inside the studio where our funny and informative guide told us about the history of the place, the people who spent their time here and small anecdotes about the big stars. We also got to take pictures of us holding the very microphone that Elvis Presley was using when he recorded at the Sun. This place was pretty amazing and it felt so strange to actually be standing in the same room and on the same spots on the floor where these legends stood while recording timeless classics. Bob Dylan recorded here once and apparently kissed the spot on the floor where Elvis Presley had stood. Legends worshipping legends.

After Sun we headed to the Museum of Rock and Soul. Here we got a whole lot of history, starting from the cotton field workers and their hymns and gospel singing to the 50's and 60's era of Elvis and Johnny. Very interesting and fun with jukeboxes on the way through the museum where you could listen to the music of different times and how it changed during the years.

After visiting the museum we went to a hotel called The Peabody which is known for their duck parade. The ducks who lives on the roof of the hotel at night comes down to the hotel lobby with the lift (YES! With the hotel lift!) escorted by a so called "duck concierge" at the same time every morning. The ducks then spend their day in the fountain that is located in the middle of the lobby, surrounded by hotel guests and other people having drinks and what not. The ducks are completely oblivious to the big audience that shows up at about 4 o'clock to watch the ducks go back to the lift on a red carpet (YES!) from the fountain, again escorted by this duck person. We got there at about ten to five and there was already a lot of people there, it was almost hard to find a good spot where we could see the ducks walk out. When we asked a shop assistant at one of the shops in the hotel about the crowd she said that it was surprisingly quiet compared to what it usually is like. Just one of the crazy things that can be found in Memphis.
